One episode features Prof. Daisuke Matsushima of Kanazawa University, Japan, who discusses the evolving opportunities for Indian students and professionals in Japan. The conversation explores Japan’s demographic shift, with over 30 percent of its population aged above 65 and the resulting demand for young, skilled talent. Prof. Matsushima highlights the growing presence of Indian students in cities such as Tokyo and Kanazawa, supported by government scholarships and international exchange programs. With Japan anticipating a shortage of nearly 700,000 IT professionals by 2036, students skilled in STEM fields, including artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, are expected to play a vital role in the country’s future workforce.

Another episode explores student life in Tokyo and the increasing number of internships and part-time opportunities available to international students. The discussion highlights how Indian students actively engage in academic, cultural and professional experiences, from internships with small and medium-sized technology firms to short-term immersion programs designed to introduce students to Japan’s education system and culture. Scholarship initiatives and industry partnerships are further strengthening educational exchange between India and Japan.

Trio Tales also explores the challenges students face in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world. An episode featuring Dr Debmita Dutta, a medical doctor and applied neuroscience expert, examines the science behind distraction, anxiety, and focus in the AI age. The conversation explores why many young people today find it harder to concentrate, the rising prevalence of stress and burnout among high-achieving students and what happens to the brain during constant digital stimulation such as prolonged social media use.

Dr Dutta explains how attention, motivation, and procrastination are closely linked to brain processes, and how emerging technologies like AI may influence the way students think and learn. She also highlights the pressures often faced by high-performing students and the misconception that constant activity equals productivity. Emphasising that focus and emotional regulation can be trained like a muscle, the discussion encourages students to develop mindful habits that strengthen attention, resilience, and independent thinking.
