At TRIO World Academy, we recognise that students have different learning abilities, strengths and support needs. Our Learning Support Department works towards creating an inclusive environment where students who require additional assistance can participate in school life and make progress at their own pace.
In keeping with the IB philosophy of inclusion, our approach focuses on understanding individual needs, reducing barriers to learning and providing appropriate support within the school environment.
We aim to include students in mainstream classrooms to the greatest extent possible, based on their individual learning needs. Depending on the support required, students may participate in mainstream classroom learning either fully or partially. We encourage their involvement in academics, Physical Education, extracurricular activities and creative learning wherever appropriate.
Classroom teachers use differentiated teaching strategies, while the Learning Support team provides additional guidance and assistance when needed.
Our department includes Special Educators specialising in Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD) and a Psychological Counsellor. The team works with classroom teachers, specialist teachers and parents to understand students' needs and plan appropriate support.
Individual Education Programmes are developed according to each student's identified needs, with particular attention to language development and social functioning. Learning goals and activities are planned with consideration for the student's current abilities, academic development, social-emotional wellbeing and behavioural needs.
Special Educators observe students, provide skill-based support and share feedback with Homeroom Teachers and specialist teachers. For students requiring more intensive individual assistance, the school may arrange shadow teachers to provide one-to-one support, depending on the student's needs and available resources.
We arrange professional development sessions with external counsellors and special educators to help teachers better understand and support students with additional learning needs in mainstream classrooms. Regular communication between teachers and the Learning Support team helps maintain a coordinated approach.
We conduct awareness and sensitisation activities within the school community to promote understanding, empathy and respect for different learning needs. The Learning Support team also identifies and reviews new referrals from within the school to determine where additional support may be appropriate.
TRIO World Academy recognises that students have different learning needs. Applications from students requiring specialised learning support are reviewed individually to determine whether the school can provide the assistance required.
Admission is offered only when the school is confident that suitable support can be provided to meet the student's needs.
