Student Support at TRIO World Academy

Supporting Learning, Wellbeing and Personal Growth

At TRIO World Academy, we recognise that every student has different strengths, interests and learning needs.

As an international and multicultural school offering IB and Cambridge education, we welcome students from a range of educational and cultural backgrounds. Our approach to student support brings together academic guidance, language development, emotional wellbeing and individual attention.

We aim to help students feel comfortable in their learning environment, develop confidence and receive appropriate support throughout their school years.

Academic Support and Individual Learning

Students learn at different paces and in different ways. Our teachers use differentiated teaching strategies to respond to varying learning needs within the classroom.

Through classroom observations, assessments, feedback and regular progress reviews, teachers identify areas where students may need additional guidance or opportunities for further challenge.

Our approach encourages students to ask questions, take responsibility for their learning and develop independence, in keeping with the enquiry-based philosophy of the IB and the academic expectations of Cambridge programmes.

English Language Support (EAL/ESL)

For students joining from different countries or educational systems, learning in English may require additional support.

TRIO offers English as an Additional Language (EAL) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programmes to help students develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Support is based on students' language proficiency and learning needs, helping them participate more confidently in classroom activities and communicate with teachers and classmates.

Counselling and Emotional Wellbeing

Emotional wellbeing is an important part of a student's school experience. Our school counselling services support students with personal, social, emotional and academic concerns.

Students may receive guidance in areas such as managing emotions, building self-confidence, developing social skills, resolving conflicts and responding to changes in their personal or school lives.

Support may be provided through individual counselling, group sessions or classroom activities, depending on the student's needs. Teachers and counsellors work together where appropriate, with parental involvement and consent as required by the school's counselling procedures.

Supporting New Students and School Transitions

Moving to a new school can take time, particularly for students arriving from another country or educational system.

At TRIO, teachers help new students become familiar with classroom routines, school expectations and their new learning environment. Class buddies also help students settle in and build connections with their peers.

As students progress through different stages of the IB and Cambridge pathways, teachers and Programme Coordinators provide academic guidance to help them understand changing expectations, assessment requirements and subject choices.

Enrichment and Personal Development

Student support also means recognising strengths and providing opportunities for further growth.

Through classroom projects, enrichment activities, student leadership, sports, performing arts, technology and community initiatives, students have opportunities to develop their interests and abilities beyond regular academic lessons.

These experiences encourage confidence, collaboration, creativity and a sense of responsibility towards others.

University and Career Guidance

As students approach their senior school years, making informed decisions about subjects, universities and future careers becomes increasingly important.

Our University and Career Guidance team supports students through individual guidance, career exploration, university research and application planning.

Students also have opportunities to interact with university representatives and professionals through initiatives such as TRIO CONVERGE, the school's university and career guidance fair.

Health, Safety and Child Safeguarding

Student wellbeing also includes physical health and safety. TRIO has an on-campus infirmary with trained nursing staff to provide care for students who feel unwell or require medical attention during school hours.

The school also follows child safeguarding policies and procedures intended to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.

Dedicated Department

Learning Support for Diverse Needs

Our Learning Support Department works with students who require additional assistance with learning and development. The team includes special educators who work alongside classroom teachers to identify learning needs and plan appropriate support.

Depending on individual requirements, support may include:

  • Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Differentiated classroom instruction and learning activities
  • Support with academic, social and emotional development
  • Collaboration between special educators, teachers and parents
  • Regular observations and reviews of student progress

The support provided depends on individual assessments, available resources and the school's capacity to meet the student's needs. Families considering admission for a child requiring specialised learning support are encouraged to discuss their requirements with the Admissions Office.

Working Together with Parents

We believe effective student support depends on communication between students, teachers, parents and the relevant school support teams.

Through regular feedback, parent–teacher interactions and individual discussions when needed, we aim to identify concerns early, recognise progress and work together to support each child's development.

Our goal is to help students feel supported, understood and confident as they learn and grow at TRIO.
