Creativity, Activity, Service - CAS

Meaningful experiences beyond the classroom

What is CAS?

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a core component of the IB Diploma Programme that encourages students to engage in meaningful experiences beyond the classroom. CAS helps students develop essential life skills while fostering a sense of responsibility towards their community and the wider world.

Through Creativity, students explore their talents, express ideas, and develop innovative thinking. Activity promotes a healthy lifestyle through physical exertion, teamwork, and perseverance. Service allows students to contribute positively to society by addressing real-world needs through thoughtful and sustained action.

CAS Activities
"At our school, CAS experiences are student-initiated, reflective, and purposeful. Learners document their journeys through planning, action, and reflection, demonstrating personal growth and achievement of the seven CAS learning outcomes."

These experiences help students build confidence, empathy, leadership, and collaboration skills, preparing them to become balanced, compassionate, and internationally minded individuals.

Opportunities for CAS at TRIO

At TRIO World Academy, students participate in a range of CAS experiences through school activities, community initiatives and projects they plan themselves.

Through extracurricular activities, students have opportunities to share their interests and skills with younger learners, helping them develop leadership, communication and teamwork.

School events also provide opportunities for students to take responsibility. For example, during the IB Diploma Open House, students help organise sessions, explain their learning experiences and interact with prospective students and parents.

Students also initiate service projects, including donation drives and activities supporting community organisations. These experiences encourage them to recognise community needs, work collaboratively and reflect on the impact of their contributions.

Annual CAS Exhibition: Sharing Our CAS Journeys

Every April, our IB Diploma Programme students from Grades 11 and 12 come together for the annual CAS Exhibition. It is an opportunity for students to share their experiences, reflect on what they have learnt and recognise their personal growth through Creativity, Activity and Service.

Sharing Experiences and Reflections

Grade 12 students prepare a CAS Newsletter documenting their experiences, challenges, achievements and learning throughout their CAS journey.

Grade 11 students create posters highlighting their CAS activities, reflections and learning outcomes. These displays give visitors an insight into the different projects and experiences students have undertaken.

Gallery Walk: Learning Across Grades

An important part of the exhibition is the Gallery Walk, where Grade 11 students interact with younger students from Middle School.

They explain their projects, share their experiences and discuss the importance of creativity, physical activity and service. These conversations also help younger students understand how learning can extend beyond the classroom.

Appreciating Our Support Staff

The exhibition also provides an opportunity for students to express their gratitude to the school's support staff.

As a gesture of appreciation, students present gifts to acknowledge their hard work and the important role they play in the school community.

Learning Through Experience

The annual CAS Exhibition brings together student initiative, collaboration, service and reflection. It allows students to recognise their progress, learn from one another and share how their experiences have contributed to their personal development.
