Educating students in 21st century is one of the challenges that the educators need to embrace it with joy. Everything is changing, due to technology. Change also includes the way we learn and the way we teach to our students. We have implemented i Pads learning programme in the Middle School. The iPads in the classroom brings education to life. This interactive technology makes learning more engaging and memorable. Tools such as audio and video recorders can change the way that learning takes place and how homework is completed.
Educators in 21st century no longer believes in the concept of “one size fits all”, or in the other way round, 21st century learners are the key elements in educational revolution, they are leading the change, redefining the learning experiences of both teachers and students. They are children of the global world; they receive and transmit information globally. Enabling technology by the use of ipads actively in the teaching learning process creates personalized learning, engage students in creative and diverse ways, enable them as problem solvers, communicators and transforming the learner cycle to move from dependent learners to interested, involved to self directed learners. Transforming them as life long learners.
Learners need to develop these skills along with their curriculum as an ongoing process. The ability to collaborate, go global, work in teams, to think critically, creatively look for new solutions, develop entrepreneurship, communicate clearly, awareness on digital literacy and the importance of leaving positive digital foot prints. And ipad has definitely enabled us to blend the 21st century learning skills as a part of our day today teaching learning processes.
In the ideal 21st century classroom, learners are actually excited about going to school, because everyone is eager to learn. The curriculum in the classroom is designed to incorporate many skills and intelligence levels, and makes use of technology and multimedia. The lessons are designed in such a way, they no longer depend on textbooks, but works on project based learning. Without any doubt iPad has helped us to ignite the passion of learning and curiosity in young minds. iPad has changed our mode of communication between the teacher and the learner, we bring in the culture of blended classroom, of having a transition between the traditional method of teaching and digital mode of teaching and learning. It happens seamlessly. We also encourage the idea of flipped classroom, online project submissions, and digital textbooks to reduce the load on the backpack. We do agree that ” Security is the main concern for us, for that we have installed Firewalls so that the students are in the safe network.
A new addition to 21st century curriculum is the study of green education and environmental issues, paperless classrooms, but we are not ready to let go of paper yet completely. Learners will carry on learning at home and over holidays, and they will have the resources they need to keep learning no matter where they are. This ability to foster a love of learning is truly the role of education in the 21st century. And ipad has definitely helped us in achieving it.
